Ilaria Micheli is a Professor of African languages and linguistics at the University of Trieste, Department of Law, languages, Interpreting and Translation Studies. In the first part of her seminar Prof. Micheli will offer some suggestions for a better understanding of Africa and of the richness in terms of different cultures and values it implies. Some brief footnotes will be added referring to the effect of globalisation and climate change on African most fragile societies, proposing a way to help ameliorating their situation through a more careful planning of North-South cooperation, not limited to technical assistance, but rather focussed on a respectful attitude towards different human groups, their lifestyles, their languages and their beliefs.
